Sacred messages in feathers

Those of you who follow my social media or have attended an Emazon event are aware feathers and wings are an intricate part of my brand and principles. Why? Not only do wings symbolise freedom and independence, they drop magnificent gifts from our spirit in our path, feathers.

Many people ask me “What is this feather thing about?” People tag me on the feathers they have found, exchange them as gifts and even had them tattooed as symbols of their freedom. Feathers have been used as a symbolic form of communication between us and the spirit world for centuries. They have held symbolic meaning in Celtic, Nordic and American Indian traditions as gifts from those who watch over us.

Our spirit and guardians use feathers along with their colors, timing and position as a form of guidance. Granted to us by the animal totems such as the Raven (crow), Dove and Eagle who happen to be all connected to feminine power in various forms. More importantly feminine freedom, which you all kinda know is my thing. So when your attention is caught by a single feather sitting alone on your path, this is a gift for you. Colors have various meanings that can alter from different doctrines however the most common 3 are

White

Confirmation of an answer you have recently received. A YES to the question you have been asking. Keep moving forward on the path you are on. Validation you are the right track.

Black

Granted to us from the raven goddess Morrigan that you are safe and protected to continue on your path. To let go of the fears and doubts you may have in moving forward. Sometimes we paralyse ourselves when making decisions out of fear that we wont be supported. A black feather confirmed your spirit and guardians are protecting you.

Black and White

Normally a black and white combination (especially here in Australia) is a sign an important change is coming or has all ready arrived, trust the change is for the better. Even if it means your life as you know it will be re-arranged, the change is required for your growth or healing.

When you see one that grabs your attention, pick it up as a gesture you have acknowledged the sign and grateful for the time and effort taken to arrange it for you. If you collect a few, place them in a special space where you are reminded of its message. Once you feel the message or sign it gave you has passed, return them to mother earth as a gift of gratitude. Alternatively you can create a smudge wand to fan your favorite incense for cleansing a space.

Colors

This is where the meaning vary depending on what doctrine you are taking your information from. However the most common are in relation to the pagan traditions who referred to mother earth, her cycles and elements as their divine source of guidance. So they divided them into elements.

Earth Colors: Green, Browns, Naturals are associated to being “grounded”. When we feel “unearthed” we need to come back to ourselves and re-affirm our beliefs, values and natural state of being. We find earth tone feathers when we need to block out the world and return to ourselves.

Sun Colors: Yellow/Orange/Red in reflection of the Sun represents rebirth, new beginnings and renewal.  It confirms the one you are currently experiencing is required or you are about to enter one. Allow it.

Water Colors: Blue/Aqua are associated to healing and cleansing. This indicates the time has come to de-toxify and clear the things in your life that are creating pollution. It claims you are ready to remove the emotional “weight” in your life.

Spotted Colors: A request to please leave the past behind you. It no longer serves you. The identities and the belief systems that were created in your past are no longer required. To move forward you must surrender the past and please let  it go with grace, its time.

This gallery is a tribute to the many forms the feather has taken for us.

    Hi Emma

Today I found a black and white feather when I hopped out of the car at work. Just looked up the meaning and it is spot on! On Thursday I was told that I was being made redundant, so this feather and its meaning has made my day!

The turdus merula bird came into my children’s home Sunday I made sure it was set free and safe but In the process of releasing it I was marked on my left hand with a symbol of a feather. What is the meaning of this message it’s not clear to me yet?

The weirdest thing is when I was using the restroom the feather floated down to my feet. I looked up in it was nothing there. I immediately came to the conclusion that it was something spiritual because of a recent prayer I made to the most high.

Been finding feathers of different colours on nearly every one of my walks. Each colour has represented exactly what I am going through. Thank you Mother Earth.
